ANNESTY INTERNATIONAL ACCUSES POLICE FOR HUMAN RIGHT ABUSE

The civilians were being detained in connection with the Boko Haram insurgency in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states in northeast region. According to Amnesty International many of the deaths were recorded at the “infamous Giwa Barracks” in Maiduguri, capital of Borno state. “In April 2017 alone, 166 corpses were transferred from Giwa to the mortuary,” the report said. “Severe overcrowding, scarce food and water, extreme heat, infestation by parasites and insects, and lack of access to adequate sanitation and health care are among the litany of violations at Giwa,” the report states. GES Resumes Teacher Recruitment After Resolving GTLE Issues

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially announced the resumption of its teacher recruitment process after successfully addressing the concerns related to the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE). In a letter dated October 31, 2024, the Director-General of GES, Dr. Eric Nkansah, informed all Regional Directors of Education that the updated master list now reflects only qualified candidates. As a result, the recruitment process will recommence on November 7, 2024 , and is set to conclude by November 9, 2024 . The GES has instructed recruits, particularly those from the College of Education, to report to their respective regional education offices during this period with the following documents: original appointment letters and valid identification . In the letter, GES also took the opportunity to apologize for the delays caused by the issues surrounding the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GILE), acknowledging the inconvenience faced by many candidates. We have observed with dismay the recent clearance and posting of teachers and nurses. While we commend these initiatives, we cannot overlook the glaring omission of postings for Environmental Health Officers and Assistants, who play a crucial role in safeguarding the nation's public health.
