A critical water shortage at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi has compelled doctors to suspend all surgical cases with immediate effect, raising serious concerns about patient safety and healthcare delivery in the Ashanti Region. The drastic measure was taken due to the persistent lack of water, which has severely hampered the hospital's ability to maintain sterile conditions essential for surgical procedures. The Komfo Anokye Doctors Association, in a memo dated March 25, 2025, officially announced the suspension, citing the paramount importance of patient safety and security. The memo emphasized that the ongoing water crisis poses significant risks, including increased susceptibility to infections and complications during and after surgery.
