*UPDATE ON THE KOMEPIENGA AND BAGRE DAM AS AT SATURDAY, AUGUST, 27 2022 BAWKU WEST DISTRICT NADMO COORDINATOR*

 *INTRODUCTION*

There are two Dams in Burkina Faso that has their tributaries joining in Ghana at Galaka -Gbeogo (confluence). These two Dams are Komepieng Dam and Bagre Dam respectively. These two Dams are tributaries of the White Volta River and provide water for the downstream countries like Ghana. Any time there is overflow or Spillage of these Dams the impact is on downstream countries.  There is a raising filling rate of these Dams as a result of torrential rains in the southern part of Burkina Faso hence a possible Spillage of the Bagre Dam. Below is an update on the water levels at both Dams.

1. *KOMEPIENGA DAM UPDATE*

The upstream level on Saturday,  August, 27 2022, was 175.22m. Rising levels.  The filling rate was 57.65% compared to 53.37% on the same date in 2021.

2. *BAGRE DAM UPDATE*

The upstream level  on Saturday,  August 27, 2022 was 234.26m. Rising levels. The filling rate was 90.10% compared to 90.24% on the same date in 2021.

 *IMPLICATIONS*

If the current evolution of the level at Bagre continues,  the opening of the spill gates of the Bagre Dam will take place in about ten days.

 *CONCLUSION*

NADMO wishes to caution farmers along the White Volta, the contractor at the Kobore bridge,  Ghana Water Resource Commission and Dredge Masters working on the White Volta stretch to take note of the above information.
