President Mahama Announces Direct Payment of Nursing and Teacher Trainee Allowances by Controller and Accountant General's Department

In a move aimed at streamlining the disbursement of allowances to nursing and teacher trainees, President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the Controller and Accountant General’s Department will now be responsible for directly paying these allowances. This new payment system is designed to ensure that trainees receive their stipends consistently and in a timely manner.

The President's announcement signifies a significant change in the administration of trainee allowances, shifting the responsibility from previous arrangements to the Controller and Accountant General’s Department, the primary entity responsible for public sector salary payments. This change is intended to improve the efficiency and reliability of the allowance distribution process.

According to President Mahama, the primary objective of this new system is to synchronize the payment of trainee allowances with the monthly salary disbursements to public sector workers. This alignment will guarantee that nursing and teacher trainees receive their allowances at the same time as government employees receive their salaries, eliminating delays and inconsistencies that may have occurred under previous arrangements.

"This new system will bring greater consistency and predictability to the payment of trainee allowances," President Mahama stated. "By aligning these payments with the public sector salary schedule, we are ensuring that our hardworking trainees receive their due financial support without unnecessary delays."

The move is expected to alleviate the financial burdens faced by nursing and teacher trainees, who rely on these allowances to support their education and living expenses. The timely disbursement of allowances will enable them to focus on their studies and training without the added stress of financial uncertainty.

The decision also reflects the government's commitment to supporting the training and development of future healthcare and education professionals. By ensuring that trainees receive their allowances promptly, the government is demonstrating its investment in the next generation of essential workers.

The Controller and Accountant General’s Department is now tasked with implementing the new payment system, ensuring a smooth transition and efficient disbursement of allowances. The public and stakeholders are monitoring the implementation of this new system, anticipating a more reliable and consistent payment process for nursing and teacher trainees.
