A disturbing case of child abuse has emerged in the Central Region of Ghana

A disturbing case of child abuse has emerged in the Central Region of Ghana, leading to the arrest of a couple by the Awutu Bereku District Police Command. Bismarck Odoi, 35, and Saviour Arthur, 33, are accused of chaining their 9-year-old son and leaving him abandoned in a bush near Gomoa Nkwantanana for two consecutive days.

The shocking incident came to light when a local woman, venturing into the bush to gather firewood, stumbled upon the distressed child. She discovered the boy, bound and visibly traumatized, and immediately alerted the authorities. Police officers swiftly responded to the scene and apprehended the couple.

During initial questioning, both Odoi and Arthur reportedly admitted to chaining their son. They attempted to justify their actions by claiming the child was "stubborn" and required severe disciplinary measures. However, authorities have condemned their actions as a gross violation of child protection laws and basic human rights.

The child, who was found in a state of neglect and exhibiting signs of emotional distress, has been taken into protective custody. He is currently receiving medical attention and psychological support to address the trauma he endured. Social welfare officials are working to ensure his well-being and determine the appropriate long-term care arrangements.

"This is a deeply disturbing case of child abuse that cannot be tolerated," stated a spokesperson for the Awutu Bereku District Police Command. "We are committed to thoroughly investigating this matter and ensuring that the perpetrators are brought to justice. The safety and welfare of children are paramount, and we will not hesitate to take strong action against anyone who endangers them."

The incident has sparked outrage within the local community and across the nation, with calls for swift and decisive legal action against the couple. Child protection advocates are emphasizing the need for increased awareness about child rights and the importance of responsible parenting.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are gathering evidence to build a strong case against Odoi and Arthur. They are expected to face charges related to child abuse, neglect, and potentially other offenses. The community is closely monitoring the case, seeking assurance that justice will be served and that measures will be implemented to prevent similar incidents in the future.
