Minority Calls for Dismissal of Dr. Hannah Bissiw-Kotei and Malik Basintale Over Alleged Election Violence Endorsement

Kumasi, Ghana – The Minority Caucus in Parliament has reportedly called for the immediate dismissal of Dr. Hannah Bissiw-Kotei and Malik Basintale, prominent figures within the opposition, following allegations of their endorsement of violence during the recent Ablekuma North parliamentary re-run election.

The demand comes in the wake of disturbances reported during the re-run, which saw a civil group, the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO), strongly condemn acts of "political thuggery, intimidation, and inducement of voters." While specific details linking Dr. Bissiw-Kotei and Mr. Basintale to the alleged endorsements remain under scrutiny, the Minority's call highlights growing concerns over electoral integrity and political rhetoric.

The Ablekuma North constituency re-run was necessitated by irregularities in the 2024 general elections, with the Electoral Commission (EC) ordering a re-vote in 19 polling stations. The re-run itself was marred by incidents of violence, including assaults on political figures, prompting widespread condemnation from civil society organizations.

The Minority's demand underscores the escalating political tensions surrounding recent electoral processes and the pressing need for accountability from political actors. Further developments are expected as the allegations are investigated and the relevant political parties respond to the calls for dismissal.
