Minority MPs Divert to Cantonments, Present Budget Petition to Diplomatic Corps Dean

ACCRA, Ghana – Opposition lawmakers, engaged in a walkout from today's mid-year budget review proceedings, made an unscheduled stop in Cantonments to present their initial petition to the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps.

The move comes as the Minority group boycotts the government's mid-year fiscal policy presentation, citing grievances with its contents or the process. Instead of proceeding directly from Parliament, the Members of Parliament (MPs) headed to the diplomatic enclave.

The petition, the contents of which have not yet been fully disclosed, is understood to outline the Minority's concerns regarding the budget and their reasons for the boycott. Presenting it to the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps is a strategic move, aiming to draw international attention to their position and potentially exert external pressure.

This development signals a significant escalation of political tensions surrounding the mid-year budget, as the Minority seeks to amplify their dissent beyond the parliamentary chamber.
