Self-Proclaimed Ashanti Regional Delta Force Chairman Apprehended

Kumasi, Ashanti Region, Ghana – Sources within national security have confirmed the arrest of a man known as "Swanzy," also called Nana Kwasi by close associates, who claims to be the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Delta Force. He was apprehended on the evening of Friday, July 18, 2025, at a hideout in Barekese, Atwima Nwabiagya North district.

The arrest is reportedly linked to a viral social media video in which Swanzy allegedly issued threats. In the video, he, appearing in military camouflage, purportedly threatened that he and other Delta Force members would intervene during the upcoming Akwatia Parliamentary By-election. He specifically claimed that at least one prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would be killed during these elections, the date for which has not yet been set.

Swanzy, a heavily built man, stated that this decision was in retaliation for the NPP allegedly abandoning members of the vigilante group after using them to secure victory in the 2016 Presidential elections. Authorities indicated that Swanzy's arrest is a proactive measure to safeguard lives and property before, during, and after the by-election.

As of approximately 10:00 PM on Friday, arrangements were reportedly underway to transport him to Accra for further legal proceedings.
