Ghana Police Dismantle Notorious “Duku Syndicate” in Major Crackdown

The Ghana Police Service has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to combat violent crime, following the dismantling of a suspected criminal network known as the “Duku Syndicate” in Kumasi.

The operation, carried out under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police, Tetteh Yohuno, forms part of intensified security measures aimed at restoring public confidence and ensuring safety across the country. According to police sources, the syndicate had been on the radar of law enforcement agencies for its alleged involvement in a series of high-profile crimes.

Among the cases linked to the group is the recent robbery and killing of a relative of Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress. The incident, which drew widespread public attention and concern, had heightened calls for swift action to address growing insecurity.

Police investigations reportedly led to the identification and arrest of several key members of the syndicate, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects believed to be connected to the network. Authorities have also indicated that intelligence-led operations played a crucial role in tracking the group’s activities and movements.

In a statement, the Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, urging the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information. The statement further assured citizens that similar operations would continue in other parts of the country to clamp down on criminal elements.

Security analysts have described the crackdown as a significant step toward curbing organized crime, particularly in urban centers. However, they caution that sustained efforts, community cooperation, and proactive intelligence gathering will be essential to prevent the emergence of similar groups.

The development has been widely welcomed by residents and stakeholders, who see it as a timely intervention in addressing concerns about safety. As investigations continue, the Police Service has pledged transparency and due process in handling all suspects connected to the case.
