Jealousy Sparks Violent Machete Attack on Teen Okada Rider in Diaso
KUMASI — In a major breakthrough against violent crime networks, the Ashanti South Regional Police Command has dismantled a notorious criminal syndicate in an intense, intelligence-led operation.
According to detailed briefings from the Regional Command led by DCOP Joseph Hammond Nyaaba, the police operation was initially launched to track a dangerous robbery network operating along volatile transit paths, including the Obuasi–Manso Nyinahin stretch.
Acting on actionable intelligence, officers successfully tracked down and arrested the alleged leader of the syndicate.
However, the recovery mission took a deadly turn when armed gang members ambushed the police unit in an attempt to free their leader and protect their armory.
"It was a volatile situation. Our officers were heavily fired upon, forcing them to engage in a tactical exchange of gunfire to repel the ambush," authorities stated.

Multiple rounds of live ammunition
Specialized tracking devices and forged vehicle documentation used by the network to bypass security checkpoints.
The arrested syndicate leader is believed to head a highly sophisticated car-snatching and highway robbery network.
Once stolen, the vehicles were retrofitted, assigned forged papers, and quickly moved across regional lines or borders for resale.
DCOP Joseph Hammond Nyaaba praised the bravery of the tactical units and reiterated the Ghana Police Service's unwavering commitment to making the region hostile for criminals.
A manhunt is currently underway to track down the remaining fleeing members of the network.
