Iran War Live: Coalition Intercepts Attacks as Strikes Target Houthis in Taiz

Taiz, Yemen — The conflict in Yemen escalated sharply on Friday as the Saudi-led coalition reported intercepting a series of drone and missile attacks while carrying out airstrikes on Houthi positions in the southwestern province of Taiz.

According to coalition statements, air-defense systems engaged multiple unmanned aerial vehicles and missiles aimed at southern Saudi Arabia and Red Sea shipping routes. The coalition said the intercepted weapons included drones, cruise missiles, and a ballistic missile. These claims could not be independently verified at the time of publication.

In Taiz, coalition aircraft reportedly struck Houthi targets in the Al Arsum and Al Maraziqan areas, where fighting has intensified in recent weeks. The Houthi movement, which controls large parts of northern Yemen, did not immediately comment on the reported strikes.

Humanitarian Crisis Deepens in Taiz

The renewed fighting is worsening an already severe humanitarian emergency. Aid organizations warn that hundreds of thousands of civilians are trapped by the Houthi siege, with food and medical supplies running dangerously low. Reports indicate wheat stocks could be exhausted within weeks if access is not restored.

Displacement has also surged, and health workers are battling a cholera outbreak amid limited clean water and medicine. The United Nations and other relief agencies have repeatedly called for safe humanitarian corridors into Taiz.

Regional Tensions Spill Over

The Yemen conflict is increasingly linked to the broader confrontation between Iran and the United States and Israel. Houthi forces have launched attacks on Saudi oil infrastructure, including a strike on an Aramco facility in Dhahran. Iran’s parliament speaker said Tehran must be prepared to “fight courageously” even as it pursues negotiations with Washington, signaling that a diplomatic breakthrough remains distant.

What to Watch

• Whether the coalition expands airstrikes beyond Taiz

• Whether Houthi attacks on Saudi territory and Red Sea shipping continue

• Whether aid corridors into Taiz are reopened

• Whether Iran-U.S. talks produce any de-escalation

This is a developing story. Figures and claims should be verified with official sources before publication.
