Organized Labor Demands Nationwide Strike to Curb Illegal Mining

Image
In a significant escalation of their demands to address the pervasive issue of illegal mining in Ghana, Organized Labor has announced a nationwide strike set to begin on Thursday, October 10, 2024. The labor unions are calling for a complete ban on all forms of small-scale mining. The decision follows the expiration of a September 30 deadline given to the government to declare a state of emergency in response to the ongoing illegal mining activities, commonly referred to as "galamsey." Despite the deadline, the government failed to take the requested action, prompting Organized Labor to take a more assertive stance. "Given the government's inaction on our demands to combat illegal mining, we have no choice but to declare a nationwide strike," stated a press release issued by the labor unions. "We urge all workers to stay home on October 10th until the government addresses our concerns." The strike is being organized by the Trades Union Congress (TUC),

THE PEOPLE OF KUSAUG STAND UNITED AGAINST DIVISIVE RHETORIC AND DECEPTION

Image
Recent remarks made by Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as Napo, running mate to Alhaji Mahamud Bawumia, represent a clear and dangerous attempt to sow discord within Kusaug. In a viral video, Napo falsely accuses H.E. John Dramani Mahama of plotting to divide the Kusasi and Mamprusi people, along with other tribes, should he return to office. These baseless claims are not only deceptive and irresponsible, but they also have the potential to inflame tensions and destabilize the peace we are striving to maintain in the area. Such reckless rhetoric must be unequivocally condemned. The people of Kusaug have closely followed the commitments of various political leaders regarding our area’s future. At no point has John Dramani Mahama ever sought to divide the Kusasi and Mamprusi people. During his visit to the Zugraan Bawku Naaba’s palace, Mahama responded to a request by the chiefs and people of Kusaug by highlighting the potential creation of a Kusaug Region. He described it as a via
